Tyler Prince (B.Sc), PALS organizer and WEL student, was awarded top student presentation (paper) at the Annual Meeting of the American Association of Geographers (AAG) in Boston. Tyler presented a summary of his master's research which utilizes pollen and charcoal records within lake sediment to reconstruct fire history in the Yukon Territory, Canada.

Research completed by WEL co-director, Dr. Michael Pisaric, and colleagues suggest that lake expansion within the Mackenzie Bison Sanctuary may be forcing the endangered Wood Bison to reestablish their domain elsewhere. For the full story, click here.

Danny Hughes (M.Sc. Candidate, Earth Sciences) has been entered into this years NSERC's Science! Action! competition. This national competition requires students to submit a 60-second video featuring their NSERC funded research project or initiative. Cait Garner (M.S. Candidate, Sustainability Science) will be presenting at this years CABIN Science Forum hosted by Environment Canada (March 1st). The forum features research by individuals from the public sector, private sector, and academia whom use CABIN protocols in their studies. Zach Harmer (M.S. Candidate, Sustainability Science) has been working with individuals from Yukon College to determine how isotopic signatures of water change across upper Yukon watersheds. His findings have been cited in a report published by Yukon Energy Corporation.
